Keanu Reeves to Star in Fictional Battle of the Bands with Weezer in New Film

Keanu Reeves is trading his action-hero boots for a bass guitar—and a fictional feud with Weezer. The actor-musician is set to star in a new mockumentary film where he’ll play the “bad guy” opposite Rivers Cuomo and company, portraying a dramatized rivalry between his band Dogstar and the beloved rock quartet.

As reported by Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, the movie promises a quirky tone similar to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Expect appearances from stars like Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, and Ben Schwartz, alongside the actual members of Weezer.

The film will be directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who previously helmed entries in the Paranormal Activity series. With roots in actual band history—Weezer opened for Dogstar in 1992—the film is expected to blend fact with playful fiction.

Dogstar recently made a comeback in 2023 with their album Somewhere Between The Power Lines And Palm Trees, making this cinematic reunion feel all the more timely.
