Kamal Adli’s attacker remanded for two weeks for psychiatric evaluation
SINGAPORE: A Singapore court ruled that the man accused of attacking Malaysian artist Kamal Adli will be remanded for two weeks to undergo psychiatric tests.
“The accused will be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for two weeks to undergo a psychiatric evaluation,” said District Judge Terence Tay who agreed with the prosecutor’s request to detain the accused for a medical examination.
Tay said that the case will be mentioned again on March 28.
The 33-year-old man was charged in the State Court here on Tuesday (March 14) for “being involved in the case of causing injury using a dangerous weapon.”
“If convicted, the offense of causing injury intentionally using a dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a prison sentence of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of those penalties,” according to the SPF in a statement
On Sunday (March 12) at about 9.19pm, the Singapore Police Force was alerted to an attack at 1 Expo Drive where the suspect allegedly attacked a 36-year-old man with a bat.
The police have confiscated the quota to be used as evidence and the investigation is ongoing.
Kamal who was injured had to undergo surgery at a hospital here.
He and his wife Uqasha Senrose are in Singapore for the three-day Hari Raya 2023 Mega Sale starting Friday.
According to Uqasha, the incident happened at the end of the event but did not give further details about why her husband was attacked.
