KUCHING: Those who missed the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) and Borneo Jazz Festival (BJF) 2022 still have the chance to attend another premier entertainment tourism event in Sarawak at the ‘What About Kuching’ (WAK2022) festival throughout next October.
WAK 2022, which entered its fourth edition, successfully received 69 proposal papers from 59 fellow organizers covering 111 events from various genres including music, theater, dance, handicrafts, culinary arts, literature and culture, as well as sporting events and nature-themed outdoor activities. around.
The founder of the WAK festival series, Donald Tan, said the festival received an extraordinary response from international and local artists who brought high-quality and world-class works to present to the community.
“We are very excited about the support that WAK has received this time, our task now is to discuss and make detailed plans with all the activists and event organizers to ensure that everything runs smoothly in October.
“This is the best opportunity for the community, especially tourists, to experience Sarawak’s culture and heritage while enjoying modern and traditional music, theater and arts performances, including culinary, which will also be a major attraction throughout the festival,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
WAK which started in 2017 has been led by the couple Donald and Marina Tan also supported and patronized by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts.
“WAK fosters collaboration with the local community in Kuching City to stage their performances to the public under one theme which is ‘What About Kuching – Celebrating Art, Culture & Lifestyle’.
“WAK2022 will announce the festival calendar on September 1 with various events that can be enjoyed by all and we hope that visitors from outside Sarawak will also visit and enjoy and enliven WAK2022 throughout October,” he continued.
The last time WAK was organized was in October 2019 by registering 59 collaborations and 315 events every day for a month which also included several local and international artists.
