Jin BTS participated in military training on December 13
SEOUL: A member of the K-pop group BTS, Jin is reported to be participating in military training on December 13.
The news was confirmed by the group’s management company, Hybe a day after Jin announced his solo project during a concert in Busan.
According to a Reuters report , Jin, who will turn 30 on December 4, will undergo the mandatory training in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi province for five weeks before being sent to the army’s frontline unit.
However, spokespersons for BTS, Hybe and the South Korean Ministry of Defense refused to provide any feedback on the matter.
Last October, the famous K-pop group announced that they will join the military service starting with Jin.
HYBE previously informed that all the members of the group plan to continue their individual projects and rejoin in 2025 after they finish participating in the training.
South Korea requires all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months.
However, exemptions are granted or service periods are shortened for some categories, including Olympic and Asian Games medalists and dancers and musicians who win major categories in certain competitions.
Earlier, some lawmakers also called for BTS to be excluded from the service.
BTS is, without a doubt, one of the country’s biggest cultural exports in recent years.
They are the first pop group since The Beatles to reach number one on the US Billboard 200 chart three times in a year.
The Financial Times reported that in 2019, BTS is the group with the best-selling world tour concerts in the world.
More than two million fans participated in the Love Yourself world tour concert in 2018 and 2019, earning a total of $170 million (RM762 million).
