JHEAIPP holds 14 entertainment center visitors
GEORGE TOWN: The Islamic Religious Affairs Department of Penang (JHEAIPP) arrested 14 Muslim individuals for the offense of drinking intoxicating drinks in an operation at an entertainment center in Lebuh Chulia, here, yesterday.
The operation was carried out at around 1.30 am with a team of police officers from the North East District Police Headquarters.
North East District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong, said that in the Ops Noda operation of the entertainment center, he had checked a total of 83 visitors at the premises.
“The inspection involved 48 male visitors and 35 female visitors aged between 18 and 49 years.
“The initial urine screening test on the visitors was found to be negative and free of any type of drugs.
“However, a total of 14 visitors including six men and 10 women who are Muslims aged between 18 and 34 years old were arrested by the JHAEIPP for the offense of drinking intoxicating beverages,” he said in a statement issued today.
The case was investigated by the Penang Department of Islamic Religion under section 19 of the Penang State Syariah Criminal Offenses Enactment 1996.
