It is not wise to remove vape liquid from the Poisons Act – Dr Akmal Saleh

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to withdraw the decision to remove vaping liquid containing nicotine from the Poisons Act, which is considered an unwise action at this point.

That said the Head of the Malaysian UMNO Youth Movement, Dr Akmal Saleh believes that this decision needs to be withdrawn for the sake of the people’s health for the long term while the decision needs to be evaluated until Parliament passes a Tobacco and Smoking Products Control Bill that will create a Generation that Quits Cigarettes and Vape who were born after 2007.

“It is true that before, all these vape liquids could not be taxed because these vape liquids containing nicotine were on the list of the Poisons Act, but the implications for people’s health in the long term are far more important than the profits obtained from tax collection on this vape liquid,” he said.

According to Dr Muhamad Akmal, the withdrawal of liquids containing nicotine from the Poisons Act seems like a big license to allow Malaysians regardless of age to consume nicotine without any form of guidelines.

He explained that the UMNO Youth side is firmly of the opinion that the proposal put forward can be seriously considered by the Ministry of Health.

In addition, he also confirmed that he will submit a letter regarding this matter and express objections and suggestions to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health.
