ISWAMI, the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta explores cooperation opportunities

JAKARTA: The Malaysian-Indonesian Journalist Alliance (ISWAMI) will explore cooperation opportunities with the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta in strengthening its role and serving to realize the aspirations of the two brotherly countries and their people.

The matter was one of the issues discussed between ISWAMI Advisor, Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab and the Temporary Power of Attorney, Adlan Mohd Shaffieq in a meeting here.

The collaboration included a photo exhibition to showcase Malaysia-Indonesia friendship in conjunction with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and a seminar related to the direction of the two countries amid the dynamic conditions and challenges in the Asian region.

Zakaria said, the photo exhibition is able to show the closeness and interaction at various levels of leadership, cultural diversity, civilization and progress that has been achieved and increase interaction especially among the younger generation.

Touching on the seminar, Adlan said that the public’s awareness of regional and global geopolitical changes and the rapid development of social media should be given attention.

“The thinkers should be involved to answer the question of how society can respond to various challenges in order to create common prosperity,” he said.

They also exchanged views on the role of the media in relation to current issues, including in fending off false and negative news that could affect the existing good relations between the two countries.

Also present were the embassy’s First Secretary Ammil Afiq Jasimi and the ISWAMI delegation including the Deputy President, Datuk Zulkifli Hamzah; Secretary, Mohd Shukri Ishak; Working Secretary, Mohd Razman Abdullah; Member of the ISWAMI Board of Directors, Hakimi Zuffrida Mohd Zain and the secretariat.

ISWAMI is made up of various Malaysian agencies, organizations and media organizations while ISWAMI Indonesia is led by Asro Kamal Rokan.

The association was established with the aim of harmonizing bilateral relations in dealing with issues of mutual interest and acting as a mediator for the media in both countries.
