KOTA BHARU: The Ketereh Digital Hub, which was developed as part of the government’s efforts to help local entrepreneurs further expand their markets throughout the country and the world through digital platforms, was today inaugurated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, here.
Chief Regulatory Officer of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Zulkarnain Mohd Yasin said the development of the hub was the result of a joint venture between YTL Communications and Shopee together with the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia.
He said the training and facilities provided at the hub also provide opportunities for selected entrepreneurs and small traders from the Malaysian Family Digital Economy Center (PEDi) to get training, produce content, and gain exposure using an online platform that allows access to the global market.
“This Ketereh Digital Hub will be equipped with 5G services, photography studio facilities, live streaming studio and video editing,” he said when met by reporters after the Bekwoh Program in conjunction with the Kelantan AKM Tour and the Ketereh Digital Hub Inauguration and 5G Service Trial Session at Dewan Tun Abdul Gaffar Baba , Kelantan Poverty Foundation (YKK) Peringat Complex, in Ketereh near here.
The Prime Minister arrived to inaugurate the hub at 12.20pm accompanied by Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, and the ceremony was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Chief Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
At the same event, Ismail Sabri also launched 5G technology which saw Ketereh selected as the first rural location in Malaysia as a pilot project for the high-speed internet service.
Zulkarnain said the 5G internet technology service, which is a joint government initiative by Digital Nasional Berhad with Telekom Malaysia Berhad and YTL Communications, will give the community the opportunity to enjoy high-speed internet services.
He said 5G technology is a ‘game changer’ and will bring changes to the people with a smarter and more efficient lifestyle such as high-speed internet facilities to enable various online activities such as e-commerce, video streaming and make virtual learning and training experiences more interesting.
“This 5G service offers users internet speeds of up to 1,000 Megabits per second compared to 35 Megabits per second for 4G technology. This 5G technology has internet speed capabilities at a rate of 10 to 100 times that of 4G.
“The 5G application has a low latency rate and is able to connect more than one million devices per square kilometer,” he said.
