
Ipoh targets 500,000 foreign tourists
The target is based on the achievement until last April which saw about 50,000 foreign tourists visit the city of Ipoh.
IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is aiming for 500,000 foreign tourists to visit the city by the end of this year in conjunction with the Year of Visiting Ipoh 2023.
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said the target was based on the achievement until last April which saw about 50,000 foreign tourists visit the city, which is a 10-fold increase compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Before the pandemic, there were only around 4,600 foreign tourists who came to Ipoh, but as of May, there were already 50,000 people. This shows a 10-fold increase.
“At the end of this year I’m sure we will earn more than that,” he said at a press conference after attending the 40th Asia-Pacific Cities Executive Committee (TPO) Regional Meeting and Tourism Promotion Presentation here today.
The meeting, which was held for the second time in Ipoh after 2015, was officiated by the Pasir Pinji State Assembly Member representing the Chairman of the State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee, Loh Sze Yee.
TPO Secretary General Woo Kyoung-Ha was also present.
Among the city representatives who attended the meeting were Busan, South Korea, Sanya (China), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Pariaman (Indonesia) as well as Taiping and Ipoh.
