
Independence celebrations, UTM celebrated with a convoy in conjunction with the 50th anniversary
A total of 200 participants involving 50 cars with UTM special vehicle registration numbers and 100 high-powered motorcycles participated in the merdeka convoy and UTM’s 50th anniversary celebration.
KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) celebrated its national day and 50th anniversary by holding the UTM 50-year Merdeka Convoy 2022 program on Saturday.
The 350-kilometer journey that started from Johor and ended in Kuala Lumpur had a total of 200 participants involving 50 cars with UTM special vehicle registration numbers and 100 high-powered motorcycles.
The head of the convoy, Associate Prof Dr Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan said, their journey started as early as 7am and moved from UTM Johor Bahru, through UTM Pagoh, Dataran Perbadanan Putrayaja and ended at UTM Kuala Lumpur.
“Alhamdulillah… the trip from UTM Skudai then went to UTM Pagoh and Putrajaya corporation and finally UTM Kuala Lumpur, the important trip was very smooth, alhamdulillah, everything was in good condition, there were no major problems, and we got 50 vehicles and a hundred bikers or high powered motorcycles.”
He said this when met at the Closing Ceremony of the Medeka Convoy to Celebrate Independence Month and UTM’s 50th Anniversary in the capital.
While the Program Director, Associate Prof Dr Yusof Boon stated that the main objective of the convoy was to fuel the celebration of Malaysia’s 65th National Day as a manifestation of patriotism towards the motherland, thus celebrating the 50th celebration.
Commenting further, he also said another purpose of this convoy was to promote UTM’s special vehicle registration number to show the pride of UTM citizens who use the registration number.
Also present was Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, Chairman of the UTM Board of Directors to inaugurate the closing ceremony of the convoy.
The arrival of the convoy team at the Putrajaya Corporation Square was welcomed by the President of the Putrajaya Corporation, Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud in a UTM Alumni Appreciation Ceremony held there.
One of the important events in this convoy program is the Community Service Program which is the presentation of a donation of RM5,500 to Rahoma Darul Fakir Malaysia Orphanage.
