Horror and mystery … ‘Hysteria The Series’ raises social issues in schools

ASTRO Originals will feature a premium drama series that tells the story of a school student who was disturbed by the mystery of the student’s death 10 years ago, namely, Hysteria The Series .

The premium drama series is a continuation of the 2008 stage-breaking horror film, Hysteria starring Liyana Jasymay, Scha Al-Yahya, Yana Samsudin, Ady Putra and directed by Bangkok International Film’s Best Asean Feature Award winner, James Lee.

More interestingly, Hysteria The Series returns the original director of its film to direct this premium series. Director James Lee is well known for his touch of horror works such as Tolong Awek Aku Pontianak , Sini Ada Hantu , Claypot Curry Killers , and Two Sisters .

For all eight episodes of Hysteria The Series , it shows James Lee risking his creativity with an identifiable directing style as well as fresh editing that is able to produce a more quality and realistic dramatic effect in highlighting more ‘gore’ and bold horror elements.

The difference of the premium drama this time is that it raises an issue that has always happened in our society from then until now, namely social problems such as bullying and sexual harassment in schools.

Hysteria The Series will find viewers starting June 6 every Monday, at 9 pm, on Astro Citra, channel 108 or stream on the Astro GO or On Demand platforms.

The Astro Shaw release and production by Infinitus Gold also saw the Astro Originals brand put its trust in hugely talented young actors as the main leads such as Mia Sara Afdlin Shauki, Sharifah Aryana Syed Zainal Rashid AlYahya, Amelia Christie and Serra Kamal.

Interestingly, it also brings back the original actress and character from its film, namely Liyana Jasmay as Murni and also lined up the country’s great actors, Namron, Tony Eusoff, Ziana Zain, Ziha Salleh, Fimie Don, Mathni Razak and Dr. Rosdeen Suboh.

Earlier, Astro Originals has featured a series of premium drama series from various genres, different entertainment values as well as fresh storylines as inspired by the exposure of issues that are happening among the audience such as Kampong Pisang Bersiri-Siri (the country’s number 1 comedy film franchise), Project: Anchor SPM (introducing the coming of age genre), I-Tanggang (highlighting the reality issue of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy), Dukun Diva (telling the story of female con artists and antiheroes), and Kuasa (the fictional story of an influential family in the entertainment world ) ).

Representing Astro, Vice President, Perniagaan Melayu Nusantara & Head of Astro Shaw, Raja Jastina Raja Arshad stated that Astro continues to focus on strengthening the Astro Originals brand by presenting the best film quality content that can be enjoyed by the Malaysian community covering all backgrounds and thus raising the quality of local drama series comparable to foreign drama series.

“The difference and appeal of the premium drama series under the Astro Originals brand is the quality of the production and the storyline that can be enjoyed by the Malaysian community.

“This time through Hysteria The Series saw Astro Originals appear for the first time by raising the horror mystery genre with issues that are hotly debated in today’s society, namely social problems such as bullying and packed with more daring scenes,” he said.

The film Hysteria is one of the IP (Intellectual Property) under Astro Shaw, and the storyline is still relevant to this day.

Although it is a continuation of the previous film, the storyline for the series presents a new narrative with conflicts that are close to the community and easy to understand.

“Meanwhile, through this work, Astro Shaw also collaborated for the first time with Infinitus Gold to produce a premium drama series. Good collaboration through previous projects such as the films Hantu Kak Limah and Sangkar has opened up space for both parties to expand their creativity on the television platform.

“We hope that Hysteria The Series will not only provide entertainment value to the audience, but also open the eyes of more parties on issues among students, parents and teachers who can be a lesson,” added Raja Jastina.

According to Infinitus Gold Sdn Bhd Executive Producer, Gayatri Su-Lin Pillai, they are very pleased to have the opportunity to once again work with Astro Shaw producer and this time produce a premium drama series.

“I was personally involved in the production of the film Hysteria in 2008, so the work is very much in my heart. For Hysteria The Series, we present a more thorough and ‘grand’ edit.

“We hope the presence of this work can contribute good entertainment value as well as further elevate the quality of the Malaysian drama series,” he said.

Hysteria The Series tells the story of teenage students at a boarding school beginning to be haunted by mysterious things and leading them to track down a murder case that happened 10 years ago at their school. One by one incidents and horrible things happened.
