HAWANA 2023 targets the presence of more than 1,000 media practitioners
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2023 which will be held in Ipoh, Perak on May 27 to 29 is targeting the presence of more than 1,000 media practitioners from all over the country.
Deputy Secretary General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industries) of the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said this time the organization is also expected to be attended by media practitioners from several ASEAN countries.
“This year we will make sure it is more festive because the initial preparations have been made and unlike last year we only had a culminating ceremony.
“However, this time we will hold it for three days. The first two days are a carnival and we will ensure the involvement of as many media practitioners as possible. This is also a platform to strengthen the relationship between media practitioners and the local community,” he said when met by Bernama here on Tuesday .
Earlier, Mastura together with the management of the Malaysian National News Organization (Bernama) paid a courtesy call on Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad to discuss the organization of HAWANA 2023.
Also present were Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Bernama International News Service (assuming the duties of Editor-in-Chief) Jamaluddin Muhammad, Head of Bernama TV and Radio Broadcasting D. Arul Rajoo and Head of Bernama Radio Azlan Idris.
Mastura said the HAWANA 2023 celebration was an opportunity for media practitioners to meet and socialize in addition to exchanging activities and holding discussions with the local community.
“We hope that what is planned will be successful and I sincerely hope that all media practitioners take advantage because this is the only (day) where the government wants to show appreciation to media practitioners,” she said.
Meanwhile, Saarani said his party welcomed the celebration of HAWANA 2023 in Perak and described it as an opportunity to promote the state.
“This year is also in conjunction with the Year of Visiting Ipoh, while next year is the Year of Visiting Perak. This is an opportunity with the arrival of many local and ASEAN media practitioners,” he said.
