Hafidz Roshdi did not admit to hurting his wife

HULU SELANGOR: Actor Hafidz Roshdi pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrate’s Court on Monday to the charge of punching and injuring his wife in an incident on March 2.

Hafidz, 29, made the confession after the charges were read before Judge Siti Fatimah Talib who acted as a magistrate.

Hafidz as the accused is accused of intentionally causing injury by punching the left cheek of his wife, Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, 29, three times until the victim suffered cuts, bruises and swelling.

The incident was committed by the accused at 3.32am at the Sungai Buaya Toll exit on March 2.

Therefore, the accused committed an offense according to Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326 of the same code.

If convicted, the accused can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of RM2,000 or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutors, Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar and Elyza Amira Habeeb Rahman requested the court that the accused be granted bail after being referred and undergoing treatment at Hospital Bahagia, Tanjung Rambutan, Perak.
It is because based on his investigation, Hafidz has a record of receiving psychiatric treatment.

However, the accused’s lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader appealed for Hafidz to be released on bail without having to be referred to a psychiatric hospital on the grounds that the man only suffers from depression and bipolar which is not a severe mental health problem.

As a result, the court was adjourned for about 40 minutes to give space to Akberdin and the Deputy Public Prosecutor to discuss.

The court then allowed Hafidz to be bailed at RM4,000 with one surety in addition to being required to undergo treatment at Bahagia Hospital and prohibited from disturbing the victim and having to hand over his passport to the court.

The court set June 9 as the date for the re-mention of the case and the submission of the accused’s medical report.

The star of the movie Pusaka was earlier when he arrived at the court yard at about 8.30 am accompanied by his lawyer and had time to greet the media personnel.

He who was wearing a green shirt, gray jacket and black pants greeted reporters, photographers and videographers before entering the court building.
