Hackers leaked the personal information of over 200 million Twitter users

ANKARA: Hackers have reportedly stolen the personal data of over 200 million Twitter users and shared these details including email addresses and phone numbers.

The incident “will spur more hacking, targeted phishing and doxxing activities,” Anadolu Agency reported citing Alan Gal, co-founder of Israeli cybersecurity monitoring firm Hudson Rock, as saying on Wednesday.

Describing the breach as “one of the most significant leaks” he had seen in his lifetime, Gal first posted it on the business-focused social networking site LinkedIn on Dec. 24.

A screenshot of a hacker forum, where the data was spotted on Wednesday, was circulated online.

Twitter has not responded and it is unclear whether the social media platform has taken any steps to investigate or address the issue.

The identity of the hacker has not been identified.

This activity could happen as early as 2021, before billionaire Elon Musk took over the company last October.
