Gyeongsangbuk-do is promoted as a tourist destination in South Korea

KUALA LUMPUR: The GyeongsangBuk-do Tourism and Culture Organization aims to promote the GyeongsangBuk-do region in South Korea as a special tourist destination for Malaysians to experience real Korean culture.

The president of the organization Kim Seongjo said GyeongsangBuk-do is a region in Korea with tradition and modernity united in a harmonious atmosphere to become “real Korea” with three main cultures coexisting, namely Buddhist culture, Andong’s Confucian culture, and Goryeo’s Gaya Dynasty culture.

“The region of Gyeongbuk (GyeongsangBuk-do) contains 23 cities, small and large, including Gyeongju, which is a UNESCO heritage city with a history of thousands of years of civilization, while Andong, a UNESCO heritage city visited by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Andrew from England, as well as Pohang and also Mungyeong, K-drama (Korean Drama) filming locations and relaxed cities,” he said when met by Bernama after the organization’s Promotional Dinner here yesterday.

GyeongsangBuk-do is featured in several famous K-dramas such as Kingdom, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, When the Camellia Blooms and Alchemy of Souls.

Tourists will also have the opportunity to enjoy GyeongsangBuk’s famous food dishes namely Andong jjimdak (chicken), Korean snow crab and rice wrapped in special leaves.

Kim said GyeongsangBuk-do has nine natural parks with beautiful scenery, historical relics and attractive green trees with a ratio of 75 percent, thus allowing visitors to enjoy spring festivals, summer vacations, colorful seasonal activities autumn and the journey refreshes emotions in winter.

“GyeongsangBuk-do is the largest metropolitan government that covers 19 percent of the area of ​​South Korea, and the distance from Seoul city is two hours (to Singyeongju, Andong) to two and a half hours (to Pohang) using the KTX (Korea Train eXpress) Train, ” he said.

Kim hopes Malaysians will visit GyeongsangBuk-do and enjoy a special experience that cannot be found anywhere else.

He said the organization will also introduce Malaysia to the residents of GyeongsangBuk-do, to encourage them to visit the country.
