Google launches Gemilang, the latest digital training program for Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: Google launched its latest digital training program on Thursday, named Gemilang, which offers more flexible learning to all Malaysians.

In fact, the international giant also offers 31,000 Google Career Certificate scholarships to Malaysians in providing inclusive training opportunities to those selected.

The Managing Director of Google Malaysia, Marc Woo said, the Google Career Certificate is available on the Coursera platform and allows students, even without any experience or degree, to obtain certificates in six fields.

The areas are data analysis, information technology (IT) support, IT automation, project management, UX Design and digital marketing and e-commerce.

“To ensure that the growth of the digital economy can support as many Malaysians as possible, we are committed to supporting a more equitable and inclusive digital ecosystem.

“An ecosystem built for every Malaysian, and this is a vision that cannot be done alone.

“We at Google Malaysia, together with our partners, want to provide opportunities to acquire digital skills to benefit all Malaysians from all backgrounds.

“Through Gemilang, more Malaysians will be able to access training opportunities, learn new skills, find jobs and build their careers in this digital economy as it grows,” he said.

He said this while speaking during the launch of the latest program from Google, Gemilang at its headquarters here which was also attended by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed on Thursday.

According to Marc Woo, each certificate provided is created by experts from Google and is designed to equip students with basic skills through ‘hands-on’ learning .

He also said that the company has now formed an employer consortium, connecting graduates from Gemilang with employers who recognize these qualifications and digital skills.

Astro AWANI is also part of a company that is also a strategic partner for the digital training program provided by Google.

“Google also continues to help business owners grow their business online through Google Primer, a free mobile application that offers easy-to-understand and interactive lessons in five minutes,” he said.
