GE15: Children chased by monkeys, Astro AWANI journalist becomes a ‘hero’

Every day there are people’s issues that are displayed in order to get the attention of the leaders who will be elected at the level of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and Parliament later.
But the story of journalist Fareez Azman, who was assigned to Pahang, went viral on social media after a child asked for his help after being chased by a monkey in Teluk Cempedak, Kuantan.
At the time of the incident, Fareez assisted by cameraman Khairulazman Mohamad was broadcasting live for the AWANI Bulletin at 4pm yesterday.
“At that time, I had only been doing a live report for a few minutes. At that time, I heard the screams of children, I remember they were playing on the beach.
“Not long after, the child’s voice got closer, and I saw a glimpse of the younger sister running and hugging my leg,” he explained when contacted today.
Although the incident happened live, he tried to stay calm and control the situation while helping the child.
“I’m trying to calm the sister down, even if the information I want to share depends on a moment.
“When the sister has calmed down, I continue with the live broadcast. I am also worried about the safety of the sister, because the monkey is fierce even when I try to drive it away,” he explained again.
The video of the incident which Fareez uploaded on his TikTok account went viral and has so far received over 1.1 million views.
Fareez said, following that, he plans to make a further report on the issue of monkeys in Teluk Cempedak so that security at the tourist hotspot can be improved.
That is one of the unexpected situations that journalists often face, but for sure the task of providing information to the people is a priority.
