Fundraising reached the target, Bkay Nair continues to help children with Down’s Syndrome

COLLECTION of funds for PERSATUAN Down Syndrome Malaysia (PSDM) in conjunction with the World Saree Day Malaysia (WSDM) fashion show on March 19 has reached its target.

The organizer of the program, who is also a director at Bkay Nair Resources (BNR), believes that this collection target can be achieved due to the support of many parties for the charity work he does to celebrate special children.

“There is no doubt, just mention fashion shows, usually many people prefer programs such as beauty pageants or those involving celebrities. Not to mention that it is very easy to attract sponsors to get involved.

“For me it’s different. I want to present a difference which is to introduce the traditional dress of Indian women which is the sari. At the same time I entered the work of Amal which is to help PSDM in getting funds.

“What makes me satisfied is the fundraising for PSDM to reach its target. How much that amount is still being calculated because there are still people who want to make a donation until now.

“The warm welcome from contributors and sponsors keeps me motivated to organize this event again.

“Not only that, my desire to continue to introduce a variety of types of sari has also been achieved.

“What’s more interesting, this sari fashion show also involves ten children with Down Syndrome. Who would have thought that they are also good at fashion and catwalk on stage.

“At the same time, fundraising for these special children is still going on. So, about the collection amount, let me wait for all the parties who want to contribute to do so first,” he told Wilayahku.

Bkay Nair who is also an actor was met at the WSDM afternoon tea and fashion show which took place at Dewan Tun Abdul Razak, Bank Rakyat Twin Towers last Sunday.

A sari fashion show also involved ten children with Down Syndrome.

This charity program is supported by the National Department of Arts and Culture (JKKN), Bharat Club Kuala Lumpur and the Indian High Commission with the objective of raising awareness to the public and educating them about the uniqueness of sari and channeling donations to PDSM to cover their expenses.

“Although the donation to this charity event is not as ‘intense’ as the fashion show involving celebrities, I will continue it in the future. Maybe make it an annual program.

“In addition to the support of sponsors and fund donors, I am very grateful to the WSDM team who worked hard to make this program a success.

“Likewise the PSDM and media friends who never tire of giving support. This is what inspires me to continue this kind of event,” he said.

BKay Nair said, the event also showcased 30 different types of saris and wrap styles in 30 states (south to north India) as a way to educate the public about the uniqueness and interesting facts about saris.

“There are different types in India with different materials, designs, and styles used.

“We chose to educate about the cultural heritage of sari because there are many interesting facts about it.

“The participation of the down syndrome community as a model can also improve their self-development.

“The contribution given by WDSM to PSDM is to help obtain additional equipment, vocational career training expenses and equipment to help members of the association become independent and successful entrepreneurs in the near future,” she said.
