Fund issue: Finas was asked to give a full briefing to solve the problem – Fahmi

PETALING JAYA: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil will get a full briefing from the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas) regarding all the problems faced by the corporation and the actions that can be taken.

Fahmi said this when he informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in today’s Cabinet meeting that he had touched upon the National Audit Department’s reprimand against Finas regarding a number of issues related to funds delivered to recipients, especially from 2017 to 2021.

However, he could not detail the criticism specifically because the matter had to be presented in Parliament first, but in general said it was related to waste and giving funds to parties that may not deserve it, in addition to involving payments but projects not being completed.

“So I hope that in the near future we will appoint a board chairman for Finas as well as new board members and we hope they will work to improve the issues that have been raised.

“At the same time, I see the Chief Executive Officer of Finas at this time and the team are investigating and trying to overcome the problem, but I will ask for a full briefing session so that I can understand what all the corruption is meant and if Finas wants to (find a solution) what is the action – the action that will be taken,” he said when he attended the exclusive screening of the film Duan Nago Bogho here, last night.
