Former boxer Ken Buchanan has died at the age of 77

He won his first 33 fights, became World Boxing Association lightweight champion in 1970, foundation says

According to The Ken Buchanan MBE Foundation, Ken Buchanan, born in Edinburgh, fought for the last time in 1982 and ended his career with a 61-8 record.

LONDON: Scotland boxer Ken Buchanan, the former lightweight champion, has died aged 77, his foundation said on Saturday.

“We respectfully inform you that Ken Buchanan died in his sleep this morning,” Anadolu Agency reported quoting the foundation.

The boxer won his first 33 fights and was crowned World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion in 1970.

“Ken is a great man and one of the best champions we’ve ever seen,” the foundation posted on Facebook.

Buchanan, born in Edinburgh and last fought in 1982, finished his career with a record of 61 – 8.

The boxer was previously diagnosed with dementia.
