Former ‘Big Bang’ member Seungri sentenced to 1 year 6 months in prison

A FORMER member of South Korea’s famous group, Seungri from Big Bang has finally received a sentence for a criminal act he committed a few years ago.

South Korea’s Supreme Court reportedly sentenced Seungri, or real name Lee Seung Hyun, to one year and six months in prison on May 26, 2022 after an appeal made through the Military High Court in January was rejected.

The 32 -year -old artist was previously sentenced to three years in prison by the Military High Court, AllKPop reported .

According to the facts of the case, Seungri was convicted of nine criminal cases in 2020.

The criminal network includes prostitution, gambling internationally, publishing pornographic content and making threats.

Seungri, who has been serving a military prison sentence since August last year, will be transferred to a civilian prison, in line with a decision issued by the South Korean Supreme Court.

This means he has nine more months to spend in jail before being expected to be free in February 2023.

Despite this, many were dissatisfied with the court’s decision to reduce the sentence from three years to one year and six months.

They described Seungri as unworthy of a lighter sentence looking at the criminal scandal he committed.
