Fishermen march in the sea to celebrate National Day
GEORGE TOWN: A total of 40 fishing boats held a parade flying the Jalur Gemilang around the waters of Sungai Gelugor Jetty to Kazambo Island near Penang Bridge.
Chairman of Sungai Gelugor Fishermen’s Unit Ali Hikal Saad said the main purpose of the three-kilometer march was to fuel the 2022 National Day celebration, as well as show the spirit of patriotism among the fishermen of Sungai Gelugor and Batu Uban.
“The flag installation work at this jetty has started since the last two weeks and will fly until Sept 16 following the Malaysia Day celebration,” he told reporters after officiating the Sungai Gelugor Fishing Unit’s Jalur Gemilang Flag Convoy here today.
He also hoped that the program costing almost RM3,000 would be organized every year by fishermen throughout the state.
Also present were the Director of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) Penang Maritime Captain Abd Razak Mohamed and the Deputy Chairman of the Sungai Gelugor Fishing Unit Amirul Din Abdul Aziz.
