Finas introduced several new categories in FFM32
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas) is introducing a new category, Best International Film in the 32nd Malaysian Film Festival (FFM32) which will take place in Melaka on Dec 2.
Finas Chief Executive Officer Prof Md Nasir Ibrahim said the new category was introduced to bring the local film festival to the international level.
“For 30 years we have been celebrating a national level film festival, so it is time for us to have an international level festival.
“In this way, it will be a benchmark for local films to achieve the same high quality and standards as international films,” he said in the first FFM32 press conference here today.
He who is also the Chairman of the FFM32 Committee said that his party is targeting 10 foreign countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, India and Pakistan will send entries to compete in the category.
“This category will involve participation from an international jury and a qualified local jury,” he said.
In addition, Md Nasir said Finas also introduced three more new categories at FFM32, namely the All-Time Artist Award, the All-Time Artist Award and the Best Short Film Award.
“For the All-Time Artist Award and the All-Time Artist Award, it is our effort to recognize those who are considered significant in the context of the development of the national film industry,” he said.
FFM32 with the theme ‘Film Kita, Citra Kita’ is a manifestation of the government’s efforts through the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (K-KOMM) in empowering the country’s film industry.
FFM32 nominations are open from today until next Sept 30, featuring 22 categories and nine awards, for films shown in cinemas or Astro First from July 15, 2021 until next Sept 30.
