Finas aims to make Malaysia a mandatory location for international filmmakers
KUCHING: The Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas) intends to make attractive destinations in the country a mandatory location for international film and drama producers to produce their productions.
Finas chief executive officer Professor Mohd Nasir Ibrahim said all destinations would be promoted through the corporation’s collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
“God willing, with more active promotion, I am confident that more foreign producers will come to film in our country,” he said after attending the Sembang Santai program with Sarawak Creative Industry Entrepreneurs here today.
He said during his recent visit to Bangkok with Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, several producers in Thailand had expressed interest in making Malaysia their latest film and drama destination.
He said the interest shown by the producers involved illustrated the potential of interesting destinations in Malaysia, especially the uniqueness of Sarawak to be highlighted as the next attraction to generate national income.
Nasir said Finas was streamlining the training methods it organized to enable local film industry players to produce high quality creations.
“Finas, through the industry development fund, has an allocation for associations and film companies in Sarawak or the Peninsula to organize courses and training to hone the talents of actors, crew and directors,” he said.
About 40 Sarawak creative industry activists comprising producers, directors, actors, singers and scriptwriters attended the Sembang Santai program organized by Finas.
