Communications and digital minister, ministry will represent PM in media matters
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzi has been appointed spokesman for the unity government to handle the media in a directive by the prime minister two weeks ago
PUTRAJAYA: Communications and Digital Minister has been appointed as the spokesperson for the Unity Government to deal with the media.
The matter was confirmed by Fahmi today who according to him, in the Cabinet meeting two weeks ago, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had issued instructions for him and the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) to act as representatives or spokespersons for the government, especially when dealing with the media.
Fahmi said the press conference after the Cabinet meeting every Wednesday would be conducted by him if the prime minister was unable to attend.
“Any week, for example the Prime Minister is unable to organize a weekly press conference, so me and KKD will work,” he told the media after the KKD monthly gathering here today.
Fahmi said that one of the roles as a government spokesperson is that the media can refer to him to get certainty on issues that need confirmation.
“This is to ensure the right ministry or ministers to consult to get feedback,” he said.
Fahmi said KKD will also discuss with broadcasting organizations to provide detailed and comprehensive information about government activities that are expected to be broadcast next week in the news slot.
“Various information presented by ministries and agencies but there is no confirmation of achievements and successes,” he said.
Earlier in his speech at the gathering, Fahmi said that KKD agencies such as the Malaysian Information Department (Japan), the Malaysian National News Organization (Bernama) and Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) needed to help the government to explain the Madani concept.
“The essence (of Madani) is more than a slogan but the desire brought by the government,” he said it is important for KKD to play a role in researching, translating and developing what Madani means to the people.
Regarding the appointment of Nurul Izzah Anwar as Senior Economic and Financial Advisor to the Prime Minister, Fahmi said that not only Nurul Izzah, but the government led by Anwar has also appointed several individuals as advisors including Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican.
“The adviser’s term is clear because they will not touch on policy, there is no source of authority including calling meetings and not being paid a salary,” he said.
