
Due to the RM1 baju raya promotion, boutiques in Shah Alam are bustling with hundreds of customers
SHAH ALAM: Because of promoting the sale of Malay clothes priced at RM1 for the first 100 customers, a clothing store in Section 7, here, was raided by more than 500 visitors until a commotion broke out, yesterday.
A 22-second video showing people storming the store has also gone viral on social media since Saturday.
Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said, his side received a complaint at about 10.30am on Saturday that there was a commotion at the shop.
“We were informed that the store involved is doing a promotion where the first 100 customers will be able to buy a shirt for as low as RM1, while the next 50 customers will get a kurta shirt for free.
“It is estimated that more than 500 people flooded the store to get the promotional price until there was an incident of pushing and shoving and commotion,” he said in a statement, here, on Sunday.
Mohd Iqbal added that due to security factors because they could no longer control the number of customers, the shop’s management closed operations at about 11.45am.
According to him, so far no report has been made by any party regarding the incident and no untoward incident has occurred.
He meanwhile advised the public not to be too easily influenced by any promotion especially during the festive season.
“Dealers are reminded to always be aware and avoid making promotions that can confuse the public to avoid incidents like this from happening again,” he said.
