Due to its popularity, BTS was not invited to the swearing-in ceremony of the President of South Korea

KUALA LUMPUR: The head of the South Korean Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony Committee, Park Joo-sun, has confirmed that the famous music group, BTS, will not be invited to perform at the ceremony.

Citing a report by Yonhap news agency, Joo-sun announced the news during a press briefing at the power transition team’s headquarters in Seoul.

“We believe it is not appropriate to invite BTS this time because the future President wants a simple and modest ceremony that promotes national unity while being joined by children, senior citizens and lesser-known stars.

“Furthermore, with a limited budget, it is difficult to invite global idol stars like BTS, so we decided not to invite them,” he said, citing a Kosmo portal report.

However, Joo-sun said, he hopes there will be an opportunity to invite BTS to future events that are more in line with the group’s status and fame.

He also rejected the notion of the swearing-in ceremony as a political event and said it was a national event prescribed by law.
