Dried fruit can be used as wedding favors, corporate event souvenirs
SHAH ALAM: Usually the handover arrangement is made of fresh flowers or fruits to be placed on a tray on the wedding day or as a souvenir in a corporate event.
However, Norzinah Mohd Jani, 48, came up with her own idea when using more than 10 types of dried fruits and legumes such as dates, apricots, mangoes, pineapples and other figs to be used as compositions in baskets or plates.
She said that originally the idea was only to sell dried fruits at his stall because the stock was difficult to use up in a long period of time.
“In 2010, I got the idea to make dried fruits as an arrangement in the plate and since then the demand for the arrangement has been increasing.
“We have also upgraded the arrangement to various types and shapes according to customer requests. I did not think that the food (dried fruits and legumes) that we sell can be used as a delivery arrangement,” she said at her ‘Rimbun Serai’ stall at SACC Mall, here.
Norzinah also informed that the composition is not only beautiful because of the combination of various types of colorful dried fruit, but also lasts longer, up to six months compared to the composition using flowers or fresh fruit.
She said, to ensure the freshness of the composition, each piece of dried fruit is wrapped in plastic before being arranged in the shape the customer wants.
According to Norzinah, so far she receives up to 60 bookings every month for various types of events such as weddings and corporate programs.
“We stipulate to customers that they have to make a reservation within two weeks before the event they will attend.
“One composition usually requires three to four workers and takes one to two hours to complete,” she said, who has been in business since 2008.
Norzinah said the prices offered for her compositions ranged from RM60 to RM1,000 depending on the type of composition the customer wanted.
“However, customers can order compositions according to their own budget and taste. We will try to color the basket, if possible all the dried fruits are there,” she said.
