Data breach: Five JPDP and CSM officers inspect the premises of AirAsia – Fahmi
PUTRAJAYA: Five officers from the Personal Data Protection Department and two officers from Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM) have conducted an inspection at AirAsia’s premises regarding the investigation into the leakage of personal data of five million AirAsia passengers and staff.
According to the Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil, the investigation process is still ongoing while some documents and information have also been taken to assist the investigation.
“On 15 December yesterday on Thursday, at 2.15pm, five officers from the Personal Data Protection Department and two officers from Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM) conducted an inspection at the Air Asia Group Limited Premises and are in the process of taking some documents and equipment regarding the issue data security.
“I understand that the process is ongoing and any additional information related to the issue of data intrusion involving companies that have been announced before will be updated from time to time,” he said in a press conference after delivering the Communications and Digital Minister’s Trust in Putrajaya on Friday.
Commenting further, he said, KKD will continue to take proactive steps to ensure that the issue of leakage and leakage of personal data can be dealt with.
“So far I have received (information) from CSM and JPDP is AirAsia, I believe that any incident that occurs whether CSM or JPDP will be together with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) who will proactively ensure that personal data security issues are guaranteed.
“So we are very serious about this issue and will take necessary action based on the law,” he added.
On November 12, AirAsia’s server system faced a cyber attack believed to be caused by unauthorized access, resulting in a ransomware attack.
It is understood that there are five million personal data of AirAsia passengers and staff in the server system involved.
Capital A at the same time has ordered to submit evidence documents along with related computerized data evidence to assist the investigation.
