Country star Dolly Parton received US$100 million from Jeff Bezos
Country music star Dolly Parton has been awarded a US$100 million prize by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who was appointed as the recipient of the Bezos Courage and Civility award.
Parton is described as ‘a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect’.
The Bezos Courage and Civility Award recognizes leaders who ‘pursue solutions with courage and civility’.
“I think those who are in a position to help, should do something that can make a difference. I will do the best I can with this money,” said Parton.
The awards begin in 2021, with recognition given to activist Van Jones and chef and humanitarian Jose Andres, founder of World Central Kitchen, which prepares food in disaster-stricken areas around the world.
Parton, a singer and songwriter, actress and businessman, is a high-profile supporter of charities and founded the Dollywood Foundation, which puts education as its primary goal.
Parton has also been very vocal in her support of the COVID-19 vaccination program.
