
CommFest: Loka Teja shows off futuristic design, modern traditional
16 participants among students majoring in clothing design and tailoring from seven local universities exhibited 26 futuristic and traditional modern themed clothing designs at the CommFest: Loka Teja program which took place at Laman Wau, Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex on Saturday.
The program organized by 29 students in the final year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communication, University College Poly-tech MARA Kuala Lumpur under the auspices of Lecturer and Project Advisor, Aida Suhana Abdul Hamid aims to unearth talent and recognize students’ ability in the art of design.
Interestingly, it was judged by a panel of judges experienced in the local fashion industry including Ezuwan Ismail, Salikin Sidek, Fareex Axuan as well as Lim Kok Wing University Lecturer, Nur Nasyrah.

MSU student Amira Dayana Faizah Azlan topped the Traditional Modern Dress Design competition by taking home a certificate and RM1,000 in cash while students from Setapak Vocational College (ERT), Nadia Azlin Zaidi and Rafiz Razali placed second and third.
For the Futuristic Modern Clothing Design competition category, UiTM Shah Alam students, Raja Muhammad Irfan Raja Muhammad Reduan were crowned as the winner and also selected as the winner of the Jury’s Choice Best Dress Special Award. Second and third place were won by students from Giat Mara Kepong, Muhammad Syawal Rosni and Masrianty.

Meanwhile, Ezuwan Ismail said, this program is the best opportunity for students and new designers to hone their talents by producing designs according to their own creativity.
“I hope that programs like this will be continued and expanded not only at KUPTM Kuala Lumpur but also at other universities as well, thus being able to color the local fashion industry.
“My advice is to produce creative, fresh designs that have their own identity so that they can remain in the industry in addition to practical works that are suitable for sale in the Malaysian market,” he said.

Also sharing his views, Salikin Sidek said that the average student has good creativity, especially in traditional designs but can be improved with traditional elements such as songket and batik.

Earlier, the closing ceremony was completed by the Deputy Director General (Entrepreneurship) of MARA, Datuk Zulfikri Osman. Also present were Deputy Chief Executive Officer of KPTM, Abdul Azmi Abdul Aziz; KUPTM KL Academic Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Associate Professor Dr Zahrah Yahya and KUPTM KL Campus Lifestyle and Student Affairs Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Associate Professor Dr Syamsul Fozy Osman.
Among the universities involved are Universiti Teknologi Mara Malaysia (UiTM) Shah Alam; Vocational College (ERT) Setapak; Tun Razak’s Bandar GiatMara; GiatMara Kepong; Management Science University (MSU); Inti College Subang and UCSI University.
