Coldplay in KL: tickets for 85,000-capacity stadium expected to go fast

The concert will be a part of the supergroup’s ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour

FANS are set for an adventure of a lifetime as Grammy-winning band Coldplay has confirmed their show in Kuala Lumpur.

In a tweet today, concern organiser Live Nation Malaysia announced that the British supergroup will perform at National Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on November 22.

The concert will be a part of its ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour. They will performing in Tokyo, Jakarta and Perth before their KL show.

In a social media post, the band announced the tour dates and other locations.

As of press time, it is the only South East Asian date announced. There is a possibility of a second date to be announced as tickets are expected to be sold out within hours for the 85,000-capacity stadium.

Pre-sale tickets will be available for CIMB bank cardholders on Tuesday, May 16 at 10am, while general tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, May 17.

Two days ago an advertisement along Pavillion Bukit Bintang indicate that months-long negotiations to bring the band to Malaysia have finally crystallised.

Representatives of the Grammy-winning band were in talks to have them perform two nights at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil in November, as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, according to sources.

Images of the digital billboard which went viral hinted at Coldplay coming to Malaysia after months of rumours.

Similar teasers have popped up in several other Asean cities such as Manila and Jakarta.

Live Nation which was negotiating to bring the show to Kuala Lumpur has also posted the teaser on its social media pages.

The world’s leading concert organiser has been tight-lipped over their efforts to bring Chris Martin and company here.

For its stature, the band has amongst the lowest ticket prices with Bloomberg putting them at US$77 (RM340) for the lowest tier.

The tour has so far garnered over RM400 million from 4.5 million ticket sales at 115 venues.

Coldplay had already teased a South East Asia stop when they released their ‘Humankind’ music video on August 17, where the region was featured as future concert venues.

In support of their ninth studio album of the same title, the Music of the Spheres World Tour commenced on March 18, last year, in Costa Rica.

Formed in London in 1997, the band comprises an original lineup of lead vocalist Martin, drummer Will Champion, guitarist Jonny Buckland and bassist Guy Berryman.

They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide and are regarded as among the few consistent musical artists who continuously churn out hit records and albums.
