
Chuck D Honored with Inaugural ‘Reverb Award’ for Using Music as a Voice for Justice
MEMPHIS, May 6, 2025 – Chuck D, the iconic voice of Public Enemy, has been named the first-ever recipient of the Soulsville Foundation’s “Reverb Award”, celebrating artists who use their music to inspire change and empower communities.
Presented at the historic Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the award recognizes Chuck D’s lifelong dedication to fusing activism with artistry. Known for using his platform to educate, challenge injustice, and uplift through powerful lyrics and public advocacy, Chuck D’s contributions continue to influence generations.
“I’m deeply honored,” said Chuck D. “I was raised on Stax records and to be recognized here, where soul and resistance met, is truly humbling.”
The ceremony featured musical tributes by Talibah Safiya and students from the Stax Music Academy, who performed timeless anthems including “Respect Yourself.”
