Catan game creator Klaus Teuber has died

The creator of the game Catan, Klaus Teuber has died at the age of 70.

In a statement released by family members, Teuber died on April 1 due to a serious illness.

More than 40 million Catan games have been sold worldwide since it was first introduced in 1995.

It has also been translated into over 40 languages.

Catan Studio in a statement described the deceased as “a good and selfless human being” as well as “an inspiring leader”.

The company also urged fans of the game to remember the deceased by “doing good to others in addition to enjoying the game with their loved ones”.

The Catan game, originally known as The Settlers of Catan, saw players fight to capture an island called Catan.

Players can do so by building villages and roads using purchased resources to dominate the island.

Catan is Teuber’s second game, the first being Barbarossa which was introduced in 1988 but did not become as popular as Catan.

Before becoming a game creator, Teuber worked as a dental technician.

In an interview with the New Yorker in 2014, Teuber said he “faced a lot of problems” as a technician and created games to “calm himself”.
