Cantonese Heritage Trail: The Lantern Festival boosts the tourism industry in Ipoh
IPOH: The Lantern Festival, which is a Cantonese Heritage Trail in this city, is capable of boosting the tourism industry here with its uniqueness and aura.
The Heritage Trail created from the three main races also symbolizes the harmony and unity of the Malaysian Family.
The mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, said the festival was organized to promote and introduce the Cantonese Chinese tradition of celebrating the Zhong Qiu (Moon Cake) festival.
The festival which is synonymous with the name Mid-Autumn, among others, is a sign of gratitude for the harvest that brings abundant fruits throughout the year.
“This Lantern Festival is part of the Cantonese Heritage Trail developed in Ipoh.
“Apart from the other three Heritage Trails to highlight Ipoh as a unique city, which was developed together with the three largest races in Malaysia,” he said.
Rumaizi said this when speaking to inaugurate the 2022 Lantern Festival organized by the Perak Nam Hoi Association and the Perak Shun Tak Association here last night.
Also present, Ipoh City Council Member (MBI), Prof. Dr Richard Ng who is also the chairman of the party’s organizing committee.
In the meantime, Rumaizi said MBI is preparing to receive tourists, which is expected to increase next year.
He said the preparations include infrastructure and other facilities.
“Hopefully the citizens of Ipoh will join MBI in keeping the city clean.
“In addition to maintaining the image of the city of Ipoh as an unforgettable tourist destination.
“As well as helping to highlight a unique culture that has potential as a tourism product under the Cantonese Heritage Trail,” he added.
The Mid-Autumn Festival or the Moon Cake festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese calendar, which is from the end of August to the end of September.
This festival is celebrated with children and adults carrying lanterns.
In addition to enjoying the full moon with family and guests, while enjoying moon cakes and Chinese tea.
