Bung Moktar, Zizie Izette to appeal high court review ruling
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad filed an appeal against the decision of the High Court here which rejected the application to review the decision of the Sessions Court which ordered the couple to defend themselves on three charges of corruption amounting to RM2.8 million involving an investment of RM150 million in Public Mutual Berhad unit trust.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Law Chin How when contacted by reporters said the notice of appeal was filed at the Court of Appeal last Friday (Dec 9).
Based on the notice, both of them applied for a copy of the evidence notes and reasons for the judgment under Rule 61 of the Court of Appeal Rules 1994.
Law said so far the self-defense proceedings of the two accused which were previously set for 3 Jan, 9 to 13 Jan 2023 were maintained.
Last Dec 9, Bung Moktar and his wife failed in their application to review the decision of the Sessions Court here which ordered them to defend themselves on the three charges after Judicial Commissioner Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid allowed the prosecution’s initial objection to the application.
On 3 May 2019, Bung Moktar was charged with two charges of accepting bribes of RM2.2 million and RM262,500 as an inducement to obtain FELCRA approval to invest RM150 million in Public Mutual unit trusts.
He is alleged to have accepted a bribe from Public Mutual agent Madhi Abdul Hamid through Zizie Izette at Public Bank Taman Melawati Branch here between 12.30pm and 5pm, 12 June 2015.
She was also charged with receiving RM337,500 in cash from Unit Amanah consultant, Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar, under the name of Zizie Izette for the same reason and place on 19 June 2015 while Zizie Izette is facing three charges of abetting her husband in relation to the matter at the place, date and at the same time.
