Budget 2023: Tax on electronic cigarette liquid
KUALA LUMPUR : The government will impose a tax on liquid products for electronic cigarettes that contain nicotine.
The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the use of electronic cigarettes that contain nicotine has been widely sold even though it is still illegal.
“Although electronic cigarettes or vapes are not legal yet, the fact is that they are widely sold and are estimated to be worth more than RM2 billion.
“It would be good if it were regulated and taxed so as not to encourage the use of vaping,” he said during the 2023 Budget presentation session in parliament on Friday.
Commenting further, Anwar Ibrahim stated that his party fully supports the implementation of the Generational End Game (GEG) in addition to agreeing to channel the tax revenue to the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH).
He said the move was to improve the quality of health services and support for anti-smoking campaigns and so on more effectively.
