Budget 2023: RM250 million allocation for the promotion of the tourism sector
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has allocated RM250 million to promote the tourism sector through Budget 2023, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the number is in line with the Year of Visit Malaysia in 2025 which targets the arrival of 23.5 million international tourists and projected revenue of up to RM76.8 billion.
He said the government will also implement a number of projects related to tourism issues and road congestion which has affected tourist hotspots.
“The government will build a new road from Habu to Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands in Pahang at a cost of RM480 million. Upgrade Jalan Tun Hamzah to the intersection of Semabok Lebuh AMJ Central Melaka District at a cost of RM300 million.
“Build a road and a bridge over Sungai Sepang to connect Bukit Pelandok, Port Dickson and Sungai Pelek, Sepang with a project cost of RM160 million,” he said when presenting Budget 2023 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Prime Minister said the government will also improve the facilities of the highway network to Pengerang, Johor through the construction of an overtaking lane on the Senai Desaru Expressway.
“The government has also agreed to implement the upgrade project of the North-South Highway from North Yong Peng to North Senai-Phase 1, Johor from four to six lanes at a cost of RM525 million in phases,” he said.
The Anwar-led Unity Government presented the 2023 Budget which allocated RM388.1 billion, with RM289.1 billion for operating expenditure and RM99 billion for development expenditure including RM2 billion in contingency savings.
