Borneo Cultural Museum entrance fee from 1 August

KUCHING: The Borneo Cultural Museum (BCM) will charge daily entrance ticket prices starting from RM5 to RM20 for citizen visitors from August 1, said Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said fees for the use of facilities such as the auditorium and multi-purpose room will also be charged and the proposed fee is to cover part of the museum’s maintenance costs.

“For people with disabilities (OKU) who are registered with the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), tickets are free and disabled (documented) visitors from abroad are also free. It is also free for visitors who are Malaysian citizens aged 12 and under.

“An amount of RM20 is charged for Malaysian citizens who are not from Sarawak and RM10 is charged for adults aged 18 to 60 who are from Sarawak and are not citizens and RM50. Tickets for visitors aged 13 to 17 and those who have a student card from any educational institution are RM5 for citizens and RM25 for non-citizens,” he said.

He said this in a press conference at BCM here today.

Abdul Karim said the group category of 10 people or more or the registered corporate rate, fees start at RM8 per person, while tickets for annual unlimited visits cost RM100 for all visitors.
He said the ticket price for seniors aged 61 and above is RM5 for Sarawakians, RM20 (non-Sarawakians) and RM25 (international).
According to him, the fee for using the BCM facility starts from RM100 for government agencies and non-government bodies, while RM200 for corporates.
In the meantime, he said the brand new iconic museum which opened last March 9 has attracted 350,000 local and foreign visitors so far this month, with an estimated 1,500 visitors a day.
Abdul Karim also informed that a new museum in Limbang located in the north of Sarawak will be inaugurated on August 4.
