BMF 2022 brings together music of various genres, fans of various backgrounds
KUCHING: The Borneo Music Festival (BMF) 2022 which takes place over two days starting Friday here emerges as a music festival that brings together various genres of music and fans from various backgrounds in one platform.
A Bernama survey on Saturday found a lively atmosphere especially with the presence of fans of the electronic music genre (EMG) who were looking forward to the performance of international artist Alan Walker from the United Kingdom.
A visitor from Germany, Savannah Jung, 27, said the BMF festival was very unique compared to other music festivals she had attended because it also featured elements of traditional Sarawak music.
“This festival is much better than Tomorrowland (EMG Festival in Belgium), I like it because at the same time they present traditional Sarawak music. The food is also interesting compared to other events and what makes this festival more unique is that it is located in the forest,” he told Bernama at here.
Local visitor, Bita Chia, 38, said the organization of BMF was highly anticipated because he had the opportunity to witness the performances of international artists without having to go to Kuala Lumpur.
“The time has come for Sarawak to accept or invite foreign artists to hold events here so that the outside world knows that the people of Bumi Kenyalang are not only open and tolerant in terms of ethnic, religious, racial and national diversity, but are also open to receiving entertainment that can help stimulate the economy,” he said.
Liza Chia, 45, said BMF managed to present something different when it included local music performances such as Buloh Berkocak and Tuku Kame, who had performed at the World Rainforest Music Festival (RWMF) before.
“Hopefully BMF can also be organized every year like RWMF and be able to attract various music fans from all over the world,” he said.
Another visitor, Azuinita Philip, 28, said she was very grateful to the state government for making such a festival a success by taking into account the ‘taste’ of young people, especially Gen Z who are seen attending BMF in greater numbers.
“We want people out there to know that young people having fun are not necessarily involved in drug abuse, after all the rules to enter the festival site are very strict,” he said.
In addition to Alan Walker, BMF 2022 also features DJ Soda from South Korea, while the line-up of local singers includes Rynn Lim, Thomas Jack and Priscilla Abby along with music groups At Adau and Tuku Kame.
