KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remanded a ‘blogger’ to assist in the investigation into allegations of corruption involving a project worth approximately RM41 million in a ministry.
Magistrate Puan Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued a remand order for two days starting today until May 13 against the suspect after the MACC made a remand application at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court this morning.
According to sources, the male suspect who is a blogger is believed to have received a bribe of approximately RM1.3 million from an information technology (IT) company around 2020.
The source added that the request and payment of the bribe was believed to be done as an incentive for the suspect to lobby so that the company would be successful in obtaining related contracts.
It is understood that, in addition to the issue of corruption crimes, the MACC will also look at how the procurement procedures for the project are carried out.
MACC Senior Director of Investigations, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim when contacted confirmed the arrest and the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
