
Beautiful Terengganu Carnival opens the curtain of tourism calendar activities
HULU TERENGGANU: The ‘Beautiful Terengganu 2022’ carnival which started last Thursday opened the curtain of tourism calendar activities in the state in reaching the target of three million tourists this year.
Terengganu State Tourism Department director Fadli Yusof Zakaria said, located at Pulau Poh near Tasik Kenyir here, various activities and tourism products were promoted in the carnival with various attractive discount packages.
“The three -day carnival is the state government’s effort in reviving the domestic tourism sector as well as a platform for industry players to introduce their products to the public.
“The organization of this carnival not only highlights Tasik Kenyir as the best ecotourism destination in Malaysia, but it can also contribute to improving the socio -economic status of the people of the state through the impact of chain activities from the tourism, arts and culture sectors,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the opening ceremony of the carnival which was officiated by the Chairman of the state Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Utilities and Green Technology Committee, Dr Mamad Puteh at Pulau Poh, Tasik Kenyir last night.
Among the interesting activities during the carnival are exhibitions by federal and state government agencies, sale of special tourism packages offered by industry players, baung fish cooking competition, decorated boat house and speedboat competition, Kenyir Trail package, people’s sports games and the main event on the opening night. Kenyir Aqua Light and Sound show, Kenyir Lake laser carving show and rhythmic water fountain.
The Terengganu Government has planned 22 major events to color the tourism calendar this year including the River Heritage Festival, Candat Sotong Carnival (April), Terengganu Cultural Carnival (June), Beach Carnival (July), Terengganu International Air Festival (August), Tenggiri Challenge and Sultan Mahmud Bridge International Run (September), Alami Rasa Terengganu (October), Tasik Puteri Jet Ski Challenge (November) and Monsoon Casting Tournament (December).
Meanwhile, a survey by Bernama found that the public was excited about the new attractions offered at Pulau Poh, Tasik Kenyir for providing international standard infrastructure facilities.
A private employee, Muhammad Ramli Ngah, 45, said Tasik Kenyir now has a new look with the existence of an air -conditioned passenger terminal jetty with an attractive design, packages around the lake with speedboats and an iconic bridge that is the focus of tourists, especially the younger generation.

Another visitor, Nur Alifah Abdul Karim, 32, is optimistic that the government’s efforts to boost the COVID-19 postandemic tourism industry in Terengganu will be achieved with the cooperation of all parties, especially in terms of beauty and cleanliness.
“For me, the promotion is good and can be intensified further, but the most important thing is how to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of Poh Island because that is what will be the focus of tourists in enjoying a comfortable and enjoyable holiday.
“Similarly, other infrastructure facilities such as road access to Lake Kenyir need to be more perfect and lighting at night so that tourists feel more confident, safe and excited to come here,” he said.
