Attention-hungry’ YouTuber who deliberately planned a plane crash, faces 20 years in prison

Jacob deliberately arranges an anxious ‘drama’ to show that he can escape from the situation.

A pilot who is also a YouTuber deliberately filmed his actions by escaping from a plane and letting his plane crash.

The strategy of increasing the number of views on his YouTube channel eventually led to problems, when he could face up to 20 years in prison.

In a video that was viewed more than 3 million times titled ” I crashed my airplane “, Trevor Jacob, 29, was seen allegedly facing engine problems while flying in the airspace of southern California in November 2021.

The video shows the ‘dramatic moment’ he ejected from the single-engine light plane with a selfie-stick in hand, then jumped out using a parachute to land in Los Padres National Park.

Several cameras have been strategically installed on the plane’s body to record all angles of the action, thus recording the pilotless plane plummeting and crashing into the forest.

Jacob then continued to record his action which is said to be anxious to find the crash site by going through various challenges through the forest and climbing the hill in a state of exhaustion.

The anxious ‘drama’ continues in the forest, supposedly looking for water and also the crash site.

He finally stopped to drink from a creek, and just before nightfall, he collided with a vehicle that rescued him.

Several weeks after the incident, investigative teams from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Authority launched an investigation into the crash. Jacob was asked to tell the location of the crash but he was not allowed to tamper with the evidence of the crash.

Realizing he was breaking the law, Jacob pretended he didn’t know the location of the crash. However, two weeks later, he was found with a friend transporting out the frame of his plane with a helicopter, to be disposed of.

When his actions became known, Jacob was finally forced to tell the truth that he deliberately violated the authority’s order by tampering with the evidence of the crash site.

He admitted to making a false report about the crash by saying his plane lost power in flight, and also gave the excuse that he could not find a suitable area to make an emergency landing at the time.

All the ‘reasons’ for the emergency situation are however denied by aviation experts and the pilot community.

Jacob also admitted that he deliberately planned the content of the video to generate income through the sponsorship of a company that makes wallets.

The US aviation regulatory body, the FAA, revoked Jacob’s pilot’s license in April last year.

He eventually agreed to plead guilty to charges of willful destruction and interfering with an official investigation by trespassing at the crash site. All the offenses carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

However, Jacob is expected to appeal before the sentence is passed on him.
To get attention, yes he has succeeded… but what will the authorities decide later?
