Licensing bodies also receive RM2.18 mil in payment from govt
PUTRAJAYA – Applications for the Music Industry Digital Content Fund under MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd will open from March 23, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced in a statement today.
He said the fund was introduced in line with the government’s commitment to elevate the creative, arts, and cultural industries.
Applications can be made through www.mycreative.com.my/dkd.
“I am confident this fund will open up more opportunities for players in the business post-Covid-19 to produce high-quality creative works that can compete locally and penetrate the international market,” he said.
Fahmi said 13 recipients had been given letters of acceptance for the Music Performance Fund under the initiative amounting to RM3.3 million.
Three licensing bodies, namely Music Authors Copyright Protection Bhd, Public Performance Malaysia, and Recording Performances Malaysia Bhd also received payment for the usage of copyrighted works from the government amounting to RM2.18 million.
Yesterday, the Communications and Digital Ministry for the first time organised a music industry town hall at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, which was attended by over 500 music enthusiasts and key players in the industry.
Fahmi said the town hall was the first step to bring together stakeholders from various levels of the industry to discuss and identify initiatives that have the potential to help the country’s music industry grow and resolve related issues.
“The ministry is determined to build a conducive ecosystem to support the creative industry.
“It is important to have continued cooperation with music industry players and enthusiasts to drive the country’s creative industry to a higher level,” he said.
