Angkasapuri Kota Media steps to create a National Broadcasting Policy
KUALA LUMPUR: Bandar Media or Media City which used to be known as Angkasapuri Broadcasting Complex is now rebranded as Angkasapuri Kota Media.
The rebranding was completed by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who also popularized the names of the streets in the complex as Jalan Peniyaran, Jalan Lensa, Jalan Frekuensi and Bulatan Simfoni.
According to the Prime Minister, the development of Media City is one of the government’s strategic measures to stimulate the growth and development of the broadcasting industry in this country.
“This symbol puts the new Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) on a more solid footing through a drastic physical image change so that it always looks fresh, modern and dynamic.
“All of this can give consideration to creating a new National Broadcasting Policy where it can be based on two important things which are the Malaysian Family and inclusivity.
“In fact, it can be worked into a model of national content production as pioneered by Hollywood in the United States, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in Europe, and the content industry in Japan and Korea which is centered on local culture and lifestyle with a universal shared value, ” he said during the opening speech of Angkasapuri Kota Media, here, on Wednesday.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister hopes that follow-up measures can be taken so that Malaysia’s broadcasting standards do not fall behind and are comparable to practice standards in the Asean region and internationally.
He explained that the increase in competition with the increase of broadcasters and industry players will encourage cooperation that can develop creativity and create healthy competition in content publishing.
“The presence of Media City as a symbol of national broadcasting is not something limited to the physical existence of a building only.
“The technology brought along with the development must be optimized for its use in the production of clearer content, radio and television broadcasts in addition to the delivery of information and entertainment to the people,” he said.
Ismail Sabri at the same time assured that the government will always support initiatives that are people-friendly and stakeholder-friendly in an effort to meet the people’s wishes and fulfill the people’s trust, while also giving positive returns to the country.
“People have the right to receive accurate and authentic information, as promised by RTM, in addition to quality entertainment, and this responsibility must be delivered continuously.
“I hope that Media City, in the future, will continue to be developed into a national broadcasting center with the participation and presence of various local broadcasters in this complex, following the example of Media City in Dubai, UAE; Manchester, United Kingdom; Sydney, Australia and Singapore.
“The success of the development of Media City is an example of the success of public and private sector cooperation that will continue for other development projects in various fields in this country to ensure that Malaysia develops successfully and benefits all parties,” said the Prime Minister.
