An unused first-generation iPhone sold for over US$63,000
WASHINGTON: A first-generation iPhone still unopened and in a plastic-wrapped box was auctioned for more than US$63,000 (about RM280,000).
Louisiana-based LCG Auctions said the iPhone fetched a top bid of US$63,356.40 before the auction closed on Sunday.
According to United Press International (UPI), Karen Green, the original owner of the device said she received it as a gift in 2007 but did not use it because she had just bought the phone.
Green, who runs a tattoo shop in New Jersey, said he first became interested in the vintage phone’s value when he heard about another unopened iPhone selling for $40,000.
The estimate turned out to be too low when the phone which was originally priced at US$599 sold for US$63,356.40.
Green said the proceeds from the sale will be invested in his tattoo shop.
