Altimet seeks recount in Ampang PKR re-election after narrow loss Rapper, beaten by Datuk Hans Isaac by two votes, says party members believe move in ‘everyone’s best interest’
KUALA LUMPUR – After falling just short in the race for the Ampang PKR division chief post by a mere two votes, Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman, popularly known as Altimet, has requested for a recount to be conducted.
Based on unofficial results, the rapper-turned-producer managed to obtain 746 votes, losing the re-election to fellow celebrity Datuk Hans Isaac, who garnered 748 votes.
Altimet said while he is ready to accept the result of the re-election, some party members did not share the same view and believed a recount would be in everyone’s best interest.
“The margin is too slim, it could affect how we move forward,” he told The Vibes today.
According to Altimet, the decision to request for a recount was made after a discussion with Hans, who concurred that the margin was too slim to leave it at that.
“Based on his view and the members of my team, I’ve submitted a request for a recount,” he said.
The Vibes is made to understand that the official result is only expected to be announced in the next two days, with several dubious votes yet to be accounted for by PKR’s election committee.
The re-election for the Ampang division was held yesterday after the party found Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok, who was originally elected as division chief, had engaged in vote-buying during campaigning.
He initially won the original poll with 942 votes, with Hans and Altimet trailing in second and third places, respectively with 609 and 589 votes.
Meanwhile, Altimet commended the spirit shown by Ampang PKR members who came down in droves yesterday to cast their ballots for the re-election.
“It’s a show of democratic participation, maturity and awareness. I have a great amount of respect for them.”
