Almost stepped on a snake while relaxing on the beach
KUALA NERUS: A woman almost stepped on a snake while relaxing with her husband and two children at Teluk Ketapang Beach, here on Wednesday.
Tengku Qursyiah Tengku Hamid, 36, said he came across a snake believed to be a black and white sea snake coiling on the sand while walking towards the car at about 6.20pm.
“At first I didn’t notice the snake was still alive because it looked stiff as if it had died. After observing it I noticed the scales were moving.
“If I wasn’t careful, of course I would have stepped on the reptile because its size is not that big. It is smaller when compared to the arm of a one-year-old child,” he said when contacted here on Saturday.
According to Tengku Qursyiah, due to hurrying to go home, he immediately took a picture of the snake and shared it in the family’s WhatsApp group to find out the species of the snake.
“On the way home I was worried when my sister told me that the snake was of a poisonous species and might risk causing death if anyone was bitten.
“So, I immediately turned back to the beach and told those who were still there to be careful of the snake because I was worried that many people did not notice its existence in the area,” he said.
Tengku Qursyiah said, he also uploaded a photo of the snake’s discovery on Facebook so that more people would be careful when visiting the beach.
As of Saturday, his sharing received various reactions with 744 comments and shared by 944 social media users.
“At that time, I didn’t think of reporting to the authorities because I was more focused on telling the public so that everyone who visited there would be more careful.
“I don’t know if the snake is still there or has been moved to another location because when my family and I returned, it was still there,” he said
