Alleged test format of five ads without skipping, this is YouTube’s answer
Video sharing PLATFORM YouTube is said to be testing a format to play more ads before users can watch videos on the platform, several international portals have reported.
Portal Gizmochina claims that users have to watch up to five ads, and they are not given the option to skip, before the video of their choice is played.
The portal also included photos obtained from Twitter users, showing that three out of five ads were playing before users could watch the video.
The company responded to users via the TeamYouTube account, informing them that what users were experiencing was an ad format called “bumper ads”.
YouTube claims that all the ads are only six seconds long. Users can react or complain about the bumper ad format by providing direct feedback, they added.
First introduced in 2016, bumper ads play either before, during or after the selected video and users have no option to skip.
Some users claim the bumper ad format is a way to encourage viewers to subscribe to the YouTube Premium service, which provides an ad-free viewing experience and other features such as background play and video downloads.
