Alec Baldwin is officially accused of shooting dead a film crew
ACTOR and Hollywood producer, Alec Baldwin has been officially charged with the shooting death of a film cinematographer on set in October 2021.
Halyna Hutchins died on the set of ‘Rust’ in Santa Fe, New Mexico after Balwin fired a prop gun during rehearsals.
The gunsmith for the film, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was also indicted Tuesday on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Prosecutors in New Mexico say they have enough evidence to charge Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed with criminal charges in Hutchins’ death.
The charges were first announced on January 19 and were officially filed on Tuesday.
“In my view, no one is above the law and everyone deserves justice,” said Sante Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies.
If found guilty, Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed could be jailed for 18 months and fined as much as US$5,000 (RM21,329).
Hutchins died while receiving treatment at the hospital after being shot in the chest by Baldwin on set at Bonanza Creek Ranch.
Previously, Baldwin insisted that he did not pull the trigger of the gun that fired live bullets and claimed the lives of the film crew of ‘Rust’.
The ’30 Rock’ actor has also filed a lawsuit against Gutierrez-Reed and several other people involved in the film on the grounds that they failed to properly inspect the gun.
